On January 15, Hallym University's Department of Convergence Forensic Science and the Pyo Chang-won Institute of Crime Science jointly held the "2025 Forensic Science CSI Competition" at Hallym University's International Hall, with UniSoul Friends Co., Ltd. providing operational support for the event.
The competition drew a total of eight teams and approximately 40 university students from around the country. Each team was tasked with resolving assigned missions through criminal investigation and scientific analysis. Participants collected and analyzed evidence firsthand before presenting their deductive conclusions, with the top teams determined on the strength of their findings.

Expert Judging Panel and Selection of Top Teams
The judging panel comprised Professor Kim Taek-geun of Hallym University, a former police chief; Professor Lee Seung-hwan of Hwaseong Medical University, a leading authority in DNA evidence analysis; and Kang Hoon, CEO of IDS Co., Ltd., a developer of forensic investigation equipment. Students from Hallym University's Department of Convergence Forensic Science assisted in facilitating the program throughout.
In the competition, open to university students nationwide, the Grand Prize went to Sungshin Women's University's "Chukchuk Haksa Team," while the Excellence Award was claimed by the "Jjoroni Team," a joint entry from Yonsei University, Chungbuk National University, and Seoul National University.
UniSoul Friends' Operational Support and Plans for the Future
The CEO of UniSoul Friends Co., Ltd. said, "It was deeply meaningful to provide operational support for such an important event dedicated to nurturing the next generation of forensic science talent," adding, "We will continue to contribute to the creation of social value through support for a wide range of educational and research events."
Hallym University Special Appointment Professor Pyo Chang-won remarked: "It is unfortunate that career pathways in the forensic science field remain largely limited to a small number of positions at public investigative agencies such as the police." He continued: "I hope this competition serves as an opportunity to expand the private-sector landscape as well, broadening the career options available to students, and I encourage everyone to take an interest in and keep a close eye on Hallym University's Department of Convergence Forensic Science."
Meanwhile, Hallym University's Department of Convergence Forensic Science has been enrolling 40 students annually since the 2024 academic year, with the goal of cultivating scientific policing talent to lead the way in new-normal public safety. The department is training specialists equipped to address the complex, converging challenges arising in a society rapidly transformed by artificial intelligence, and to drive the advancement of cutting-edge forensic science through the utilization of AI and data.
